After forming the new corporation, Bob Benard focused on how they could expand their portfolio of equipment offerings.  Bob had previously worked with the Elgin Sweeper Company and had built a good local following amongst the marketplace.  Elgin appreciated Bob’s efforts and shortly after the new company was formed, Elgin Street Sweepers and Leach rubbish trucks partnered with C.N. Wood Co., Inc. as their distributor for the greater Boston marketplace.

In the 90’s C.N. Wood added Vactor Sewer cleaning trucks and Trackless municipal tractors to its offering along with RapidView IBAK pipe inspection systems shortly thereafter. Cementing themselves as THE strongest municipal equipment distributor throughout the Northeast with these premium product lines.

With success within the snow removal world, Wheel Loader manufacturers took note and organically the company expanded into Heavy Equipment for site construction.  A major milestone was becoming a Komatsu dealer in 1981, which we proudly represent in MA, RI, CT and NY. C.N. Wood also represents top-tier equipment brands like Gradall, NPK, Bomag, Finlay and others.

In 1991 Paula Benard joined her father in the family business as director of marketing. As a civil engineer she was ready to apply her skills to help customers increase productivity and efficiencies. Through Paula’s efforts they expanded and relocated headquarters in 2002 to Woburn, MA. Paula was President of the company starting in 2006 as Bob transitioned into a chairman role.  In 2023 Paula retired from her day-to-day leadership and remains a member of our Board of Directors.

Gerry Carney Jr. joined the company in 2014 after being around the industry most if not all of his life. In addition to working for other equipment distributors, he spent his childhood and adult life being mentored by his father, Gerry Carney Sr., a very knowledgeable member of the C.N. Wood sales team that has been calling on many of the same customers for the last 40 years. The time spent with generations of customers stressed the importance of customer service to Gerry Jr. Today his focus has been on modernizing the same customer centric culture that built C.N. Wood over the last 60+ years.

In 2018 Gerry brought Dan Rott into the organization to manage part of the business, Dan now serves as VP of Operations focusing much on the customer support side of the company but getting involved in whatever is needed.  In early 2022 Kevin Keroack joined the organization as the company expanded its Komatsu footprint into CT and NY where Kevin had worked for the last 20+ years, Kevin serves as our VP of Sales.  Shortly thereafter Craig Cutone, our CFO, came aboard to manage the financial side of the organization. Our goal is to foster internal growth so that when the time comes for the next wave of leadership, we will have the perfect candidates within our group so that we can maintain the customer centric culture that we believe to be so important to our success.

C.N. Wood provides a wide range of equipment serving a number of industries.  Whether it is sweeping roads, inspecting and cleaning sewer systems, constructing roads & bridges, replacing underground utilities, removing snow, operating quarries, recycling materials or maintaining railway, you will often see our orange "W" decal on the side of the equipment working on jobsites throughout the northeast.
